Final COCA Meeting – June 16th hosted by HWDSB

Our final COCA meeting of the year will be on Thurs. June 16th.   The meeting will take place at the HWDSB Education Centre. We are located off a small cul de sac across from Limeridge Mall in Hamilton, off the Upper Wentworth Exit of the Lincoln Alexander Parkway.

Via Google Maps:

Some may want to come the night before.  We are looking into a possible location for dinner and will recommend a few hotels for those who will be staying in Hamilton on Wed. night.

The agenda is being worked on and will be shared once it has some flesh on it.

COCA Meeting – April 21st is Cancelled

Good Day ….

It is certainly obvious how busy everyone is at this time of year.  Very few are available and able to attend the COCA meeting scheduled for next week on Thurs. April 21st.  Therefore, it is with regret that we will cancel this meeting.

Our next tentative meeting will be on Thurs. June 16th (the most popular date from the Retreat Survey).  Unfortunately, no one has stepped up to assist in planning the Retreat so this will be a day long meeting.  We are open to anyone who would be willing to host this meeting.  One option would be to have a dinner on the evening of June 15th (for those who could make it) and then hold our meeting the following day.

I welcome your input on how we might wrap up this year.

Chair, COCA

The success of the online meeting in February has encouraged us to try to stream the meeting using Adobe Connect. For those who cannot make the drive, we will invite you to join us online when you are available by going to:

The COCA Retreat Survey is still open. There clearly is an interest in having a Retreat in June. Your input would be greatly appreciated by those who will be involved in planning. If you have not yet completed the survey, please go ahead and do it now. Here is the link:

We will leave the survey open until the April 21st meeting.

Update after our First ever Online COCA Meeting

The first ever (still can’t believe that we have never done this before) online COCA meeting took place this morning via Adobe Connect.

The meeting was recorded.  You can watch the recording by going to:

A Doodle o r Survey will be sent out shortly requesting input regarding our next meeting in April and the potential for a COCA Retreat in June.

Thanks to everyone who attended.

Feb 25th Meeting – now on Adobe Connect

As some of you may be aware, a Winter Storm Watch was posted today for Wed through Thursday of this week.

While some areas may not experience the full force of this low pressure system, we do not want to place any one at risk.  Therefore, it is with regret that the decision has been made to postpone our face to face meeting.

In its place, I would like to propose that we hold a meeting on Adobe Connect on Thurs. morning from 10:00 – 11:30am.  The meeting URL is:

Our agenda will be as follows:

Invitation to out next COCA meeting: Thurs Feb 25th, 2016 hosted by Durham DSB

The people have spoken … our first COCA meeting of the year will be on Thurs. Feb 25th. 2016. We are thankful to Tim Ralph for his offer to host the meeting.

The arrival details would be to come to the Durham District School Board Education Centre at 400 Taunton Rd. East in Whitby. Here is the google link:

Parking is permitted in any of the lots surrounding the Education Centre. The Education Centre is located at the south end of the complex. Sinclair HS is located at the north end. Please enter any of the Education Centre doors at the Sound end of the complex. We will meet in Room 2027/2028. When folks arrive, they should introduce themselves at reception then they will be given instructions on how to find the meeting room.

I have begun creating an agenda for the meeting … it can be found at:

Networking begins at 9:30am .. our meeting will call to order at 10am. Since we have not met since last April, we will plan for the majority of our time to be a sharing time … we would love to hear what your Board is doing … we would love to hear how your Board is spending the TFL funds from CODE.

We are still looking for meeting ideas for all of our meetings this year. You can volunteer or add your ideas at:

Please forward this email to anyone else in your District or in your co-terminus Board that may be interested if being a part of COCA this year. Each year, there is always a significant turn over of people and new staff may not be aware that COCA even exists.

Update re: potential COCA meeting in Feb.

Happy New Year …

I trust that everyone had a relaxing holiday break.

I am grateful for the people who were able to take the time to respond to the Doodle.  So far, the best choices are either Thurs Feb 25th or Fri. Feb 26th.

If you have not yet completed the Doodle (even if none of the choices fit your calendar), please go to:

We also need a meeting location.  If you might be willing to host the Feb meeting on either Feb 25th or 26th, please email me directly.

We are also looking for ideas/topics for our meetings (hopefully we will still have 3 this year).  If you have something you are interested in and think the rest of COCA would be interested in, please visit this Google Doc and share.  In particular, if you have something you would like to share (something you are doing or your Board is doing), please volunteer.

Looking forward to connecting with you again

PS Please feel free to forward this to anyone that you feel may be interested in attending.COCA

Planning for our first COCA Meeting of this School Year

Good Afternoon …

As the dust is finally settling around the labour issues, I think we can once again consider meeting together as COCA.  We do not have any meeting dates set for this year (because we had to cancel our Annual Meeting last June).  Therefore, I have created a Doodle to see if we can find a meeting date in February.

Please visit the Doodle (  ) and indicate which of the suggested dates would work for you.

Also, please feel free to send me any suggested topics for our meeting.

It will be good to see everyone again …

PS Please feel free to forward this to anyone in your District that you feel may be interested in attending.

2015 COCA Retreat has been cancelled

Like many of you, I was looking forward to the upcoming COCA Retreat in Peterborough.  Unfortunately, the current labour environment has resulted in a number of cancellations.

With regret, it is a decision of the Planning Committee that the 2015 COCA Retreat will not run.  If you were planning on attending and have booked a hotel room, I would remind you that you will need to cancel your reservation.

I want to publically express my appreciation for both Wanda Knowlton and Bill Mackenzie and the work they had done in preparing for the Retreat.

I look forward to the next meeting when we can collaborate together to impact student learning in Central Ontario.  Information will be sent out – probably in the Fall – about the next COCA meeting.
